City Cooperation

Transnational cooperation of the towns in the tri-border area of Austria, Hungary and Slovenia

For decades the tri-border area between Austria, Hungary and Slovenia was the economic border between three large, global, political and economic blocks. Not until the economic and political opening in the 1990s did new economic chances once again become possible for this region. With this in view 24 towns in Austria, Hungary and Slovenia have joined together to give the region new economic and social impulses. Supported by the EU programme for collaboration between these three countries joint initiatives for transnational advancement of the regional economy are going to be started.

The Institute for Systemic Development together with the East-Styrian towns cooperation has developed a basic concept for the cross-border collaboration and supports the 24 towns with setting up and realising the cooperation.
